St.
Elmo’s Fire approached Your Garden Coach to transform the dull front
yard of this log home into an eye-catching, traffic-stopping, artistic
installation. History, art and a joyful approach to life were necessary
elements. The result?
- Hedges
made of daylilies
- A
fieldstone path with hen-and-chicks and some thyme
- Living
cedar steps, flanked by dramatic planters
- A
large doorway featuring Christina Lovisa’s multimedia art
Fun?
You bet! A taste of what awaits inside? Ah – for that, you’ll have to
visit St. Elmo’s Fire and
decide for yourself.
Val and Tony had a
sunny sloped front lawn that would not accept grass seed, try as they
might. They asked Your Garden Coach to design and install a welcome
garden to eliminate the problem. The photo on the left was taken just
after installation. The photo on the right is three years along. They
still get compliments about the garden’s appeal.
Don and Cathy’s back yard was ruled by dogs and weeds so they did not
use it much despite having installed interlock for their table a year
or so ago. Traffic from the roadway behind them was a nuisance. They
asked Your Garden Coach to design a low maintenance finish to the yard
that was still dog-friendly. Cathy also asked for coaching tips so that
her confidence as a budding gardener would increase. Interlock by RS
Flynn Landscaping. Fountain installation by Your Garden Coach.
Home Stager Susan Phillips of Spotlight On Decor called in Your Garden
Coach to give this property a curb appeal facelift before it went on
the market. We updated the gardens, removing weeds and unwanted plants,
before bringing in a few new specimens. Our work involved the front and
back yards. Re-sodding by Clean Cut Landscaping.
At first, this
homeowner wanted her backyard renovated so they could enjoy it more.
After reviewing key objectives, Susanne realized that she wanted to
arrive home to peace and simplicity with no maintenance. She dislikes
variegated plants and likes the cool feel of stone. Sod was not working
so we got rid of it.
This condo homeowner does not like to garden and yet had an eye-sore to
look at. Anita knew something needed to be done and didn’t know where
to start. Her beautiful lilac tree in the centre of her courtyard was
in bad need of pruning. She still wanted access to her custom-built
shed. In discussion, we learned that even when renovated, she had no
plans to use the space, just wanted clean, peaceful and low maintenance
to look at from inside her condo. Over time, we have learned that she
does have opinions about plants and in fact has grown to like a few.
Susie and Harrison bought their home in a seniors’ development and
wanted a garden to flank the existing interlock walkway. RS Flynn
Landscaping was asked to create a low wall so soil and mulch would not
slide way and so that Susie could care for her garden while sitting
comfortably on the wall. While on site, Flynn noticed unsafe stairs
which they corrected along with adding a flower box to finish off the
front of the veranda. By under-planting the garden, Susie has room for
annuals (mums in this case) and still has room for the tulips which are
currently out of view.
